Michelle J Raymond: They say, if anything is certain change is certain.
00:00:02
And when it comes to LinkedIn, that is the case for sure.
00:00:05
And in today's episode, I'm going to be sharing with you all of the latest updates
00:00:09
across pages, profiles, content, and one in particular is a game changer and has
00:00:15
the potential to skyrocket your reach.
00:00:17
If you want to know what that is, stick around and find out.
00:00:38
G'day listeners.
00:00:38
It is coach Michelle J Raymond.
00:00:40
And if I'm sounding a little refreshed, it is that I am just back from a mini
00:00:44
break away up North celebrating the sunshine and also to celebrate another
00:00:50
achievement that happened for me this week.
00:00:52
I just crossed over the 20, 000 connections and followers mark.
00:00:56
20, 000 of you are following along on my content over on LinkedIn.
00:01:01
And that is the power of consistency on LinkedIn and persistency over time.
00:01:07
This has not happened for me overnight.
00:01:10
To know that so many people are following along and enjoying my content is an absolute privilege.
00:01:15
If you are one of those people, I thank you.
00:01:17
If you are not connected with me over on LinkedIn guess what?
00:01:20
You've got some homework already out of today's episode.
00:01:23
Go to the show notes, you can find the link to connect with me over on LinkedIn
00:01:27
and just let me know you're a listener.
00:01:29
So really, while numbers aren't everything, it is a fabulous milestone to
00:01:33
achieve and a awesome start to my week.
00:01:36
And as we go into today's episode, there is one particular change that's
00:01:40
happened on LinkedIn recently that I have had multiple people telling me.
00:01:45
Michelle, you've got to check this out.
00:01:47
You've got to let the listeners know because we are getting hundreds of
00:01:51
thousands of impressions for our posts.
00:01:54
And I was a bit mind blown about this one.
00:01:55
Who doesn't want more reach and engagement?
00:01:58
So yeah, we're going to dive into that one at the end of the show.
00:02:00
You have to stick around, you know, us podcast hosts always tease you and I'm no different.
00:02:05
but we are going to go into the latest changes across pages and profile and content
00:02:11
that I think you need to be aware of.
00:02:12
There are lots and lots of changes that happen on LinkedIn on a monthly basis, a quarterly basis.
00:02:19
I want to keep it short and sweet so I'm not telling you absolutely everything.
00:02:22
If they change that the corners are now rounded on image posts or something like that.
00:02:27
To me, I don't think that's a game changer.
00:02:29
Sure.
00:02:29
It looks a little bit nicer.
00:02:31
Maybe your experience on LinkedIn is a little bit easier, but I don't think they're the ones
00:02:36
that are really going to change the way that you leverage LinkedIn to grow your business
00:02:41
and that's what I want to stick with today.
00:02:43
Before we go into all of these changes, I just want to have a quick shout out
00:02:46
to our podcast sponsors, Metricool.
00:02:48
And here's some of the latest updates from them.
00:04:25
Okay let's start with the update for LinkedIn company pages that I
00:04:30
think you need to pay attention to.
00:04:31
One of the changes that has recently happened and is on rollout for pages is that you can
00:04:36
now request to get your company page verified.
00:04:40
So that's just a little thing that shows people that it's a real business and a real page.
00:04:46
And I guess that's to stomp out a lot of the fake stuff that we're seeing on the platform.
00:04:50
Do I think it's worth your time?
00:04:52
Absolutely.
00:04:54
If you go into page admin view on the left hand side, there's a settings, and if you go in there,
00:04:59
there's an opportunity to request verification.
00:05:02
Now, this isn't a how to episode, but just to let you know that it's there.
00:05:07
I'll be doing more content around actually how to do that.
00:05:09
Make sure that you are following me across on LinkedIn.
00:05:12
And if you don't want to miss it.
00:05:14
Don't forget, you can go to my profile top right hand corner there is a
00:05:18
bell just underneath the banner.
00:05:20
If you click on that and change the option, it will notify you of all my posts.
00:05:25
And this way you're never going to miss any of these great tips that
00:05:28
happen in between podcast episodes.
00:05:31
What else do we have over on company pages?
00:05:33
I'm starting to see that LinkedIn premium for company pages is being refined.
00:05:39
I did an episode on that a few episodes ago around what was actually involved and I was fairly
00:05:44
harsh with some of my judgments and feedback.
00:05:47
Things like why would I want to display a testimonial?
00:05:50
That's only 70 characters long.
00:05:52
Now that's changed.
00:05:53
It's now up to 250 characters.
00:05:56
We're seeing some of the other features within premium change as well, and I think
00:06:00
we'll continue to see them work out where exactly is the right balance between what
00:06:06
you pay for and the features that you get.
00:06:09
And I think with anything new, I think people deserve the right to
00:06:12
be able to grow, change, and evolve.
00:06:14
And LinkedIn is no different to this.
00:06:16
And I'm excited because I think if they get this right, It's something that I'll
00:06:21
definitely be recommending to the businesses that I work with that can have the budget.
00:06:25
With some of the other changes to premium, we're seeing that you get notified of
00:06:30
one person per day who visited your page.
00:06:34
And I just think what page admin would be excited about knowing one person.
00:06:39
I think that's a bit strange and I've got a feeling it must be to do with the European, GDPR
00:06:45
and privacy laws that are going on over there.
00:06:47
And, when you're trying to build a platform that is perfect for, 200 plus
00:06:52
countries, all the local regulations.
00:06:54
That's got to be tricky on LinkedIn's behalf.
00:06:56
So maybe one is better than nothing, but again, do I want to pay for that?
00:07:00
That's the question mark that I have.
00:07:02
I'm still on a watch and see when it comes to this feature, I've started my 30 day free trial.
00:07:08
To be honest, I haven't noticed anything.
00:07:10
I'm not expecting to notice anything.
00:07:13
Doesn't do any harm, but ultimately I think you should always test it out for yourself
00:07:17
and see how it works for you and your business in the position that you're in,
00:07:22
the goals that you have, the resources that you have, as with always test, test, test,
00:07:26
and let me know how it's been going for you.
00:07:29
And thank you to those who did reach out and give me feedback based on
00:07:33
last week's request in the episode.
00:07:35
What else do we have as far as company pages go?
00:07:38
Invites to follow company pages.
00:07:41
Once upon a time, they were front and center top right hand corner in the page admin view.
00:07:46
And this is where you get your 250 invite credits per month.
00:07:50
All of a sudden it disappeared with the new admin dashboard and layout.
00:07:53
And I was like, where has it gone?
00:07:55
It went and hid in analytics for a little while, but now it's in the left hand menu.
00:08:00
So go into page admin view down the bottom, there's invites to follow.
00:08:04
I hope that I can, share this message with as many people as possible so you know where to find
00:08:10
it, because if you're trying to grow a company page, especially in the beginning, using up those
00:08:15
invite credits every month is really important.
00:08:17
So as far as company pages goes, that's pretty much it.
00:08:20
The rest is just layout changes, which take a little bit of getting used to,
00:08:25
but all in all have a poke around.
00:08:27
There's nothing you can break.
00:08:28
Go and have a look and see what else you can find.
00:08:31
If you discover something new, please do reach out and let me know so I can
00:08:35
share it with the rest of the listeners.
00:08:57
Let's talk about what changes have come through for LinkedIn profiles and even
00:09:03
the content that is surrounding those.
00:09:05
The main changes that we've seen have been around the ability to edit scheduled posts.
00:09:11
Now that is a game changer for anyone that wants to use the scheduled post feature on LinkedIn.
00:09:17
I'm glad to see that this little bug has been resolved because it was
00:09:20
annoying that you would schedule a post.
00:09:23
And then you couldn't edit it.
00:09:24
You would have to actually copy, delete, go back and start again.
00:09:28
Nobody's got time in their life when a simple edit button was the solution.
00:09:32
So exciting times we've seen that.
00:09:35
And I'm pretty sure that rolled out across company pages as well, but most people
00:09:39
notice it on their personal profiles.
00:09:41
I'm a big fan of content scheduling.
00:09:43
So if you haven't tried it before, definitely worth a go.
00:09:47
We weren't able to schedule polls either.
00:09:50
So from that perspective, we can now do that.
00:09:53
Is this earth shattering?
00:09:54
No, it's not.
00:09:56
But for those of you who want to be all in on scheduling and get everything
00:09:59
organized so that you can just get on with your week this is going to be helpful.
00:10:04
And listeners, I'm going to give you a bonus tip this week when it comes to polls.
00:10:08
Now I've tried a few recently, mostly on Sundays, and I'm achieving almost double
00:10:14
the normal impressions on my posts.
00:10:17
I'm keeping them very simple, very generic, giving people a yes, no answer
00:10:23
choice so that they have to pick a side.
00:10:25
It makes them easy for them to vote.
00:10:28
And yeah, the reach on those has been spectacular if you haven't tried a poll for a little while,
00:10:33
I definitely think it's worth throwing into the mix, company pages, or personal content,
00:10:38
and just seeing the results that you get.
00:10:40
So yeah, that one was a little bit surprising for me.
00:10:42
I'm always testing new things, going back and trying things that I used to do.
00:10:47
I always encourage people to test test, test, because we never know
00:10:50
what shifted on LinkedIn side.
00:10:52
You don't know what shifted in your community more importantly, and only
00:10:56
you can test it with your community.
00:10:59
And that is super critical if you want to leverage LinkedIn to grow your business, that you find the
00:11:05
things that resonate within your company and for your community that you are targeting, not just
00:11:11
your ideal customers, but the whole industry.
00:11:13
Now, when we're looking at other changes that have come through for LinkedIn profiles
00:11:18
in general, I think there's just something that you need to be aware of is that LinkedIn
00:11:24
view themselves as an AI first company.
00:11:28
Now, if you think about that, that means a lot of the features and Functions
00:11:32
that are going to come through.
00:11:34
And If you think about it, they're owned by Microsoft.
00:11:36
So they've got, investments into ChatGPT, and co pilot and things like this.
00:11:41
So I think we'll see more and more of this.
00:11:43
We're at the very baby stages of this whole adventure when it comes to AI and LinkedIn.
00:11:49
And, I've been on the record number of times to say that what I've seen
00:11:53
certainly doesn't impress me yet.
00:11:55
But if you think about it, they are going to want to generate a return on those investments.
00:11:59
They have a captive professional audience.
00:12:01
We know that those that embrace AI and incorporate it into their careers or into their
00:12:07
business are going to see results from that.
00:12:10
For me personally, it has been a game changer in our business in the different ways that
00:12:15
we use these types of tools to really become more productive, to have better quality and
00:12:22
free up time so that I can focus on what's important and that's my customers and generating
00:12:27
that new business on a human to human level.
00:12:30
And you know that I can't do if I'm bogged down doing things that just take up time for no real
00:12:37
good reason when these tools can help me out.
00:12:39
But as far as the ones that we see on LinkedIn, am I into them?
00:12:42
Yeah, not yet, but I'll always change my mind.
00:12:45
I promise if listeners, I think that you need to know about this.
00:12:48
I'll be the first one to come back.
00:12:50
Put my hand in the air and say, I was wrong, or this has changed.
00:12:55
And I promise that you'll know about it.
00:12:57
I know that I teased you at the top of this episode that there was one feature change you
00:13:01
need to be aware of that is generating potentially hundreds of thousands of impressions for people.
00:13:08
And I'm going to share about it after this short break.
00:13:36
Welcome back and as promised, I am going to be sharing with you the feature that
00:13:41
has changed that is generating potentially hundreds of thousands of impressions for
00:13:46
people that are lucky enough to have their content picked up with this new feature.
00:13:51
Now, It only happens on mobile and it's called Video For You.
00:13:56
If you use other social media platforms like TikTok, there's the discover page or for you page.
00:14:02
This is the kind of thing that we're talking about over here on LinkedIn.
00:14:06
The whole aim of this game, think short form vertical videos, right?
00:14:12
So that's the first thing only on mobile okay.
00:14:16
And if you grab your mobile device and you've got this feature, if you scroll down
00:14:21
normally about two or three scrolls, You'll come to a section where it says videos for
00:14:26
you, and you'll see probably three or four videos lined up horizontally that if you
00:14:31
have a look, they're trying to get your attention and introduce you to new creators.
00:14:37
This is where LinkedIn is trying to help you get discovered.
00:14:40
Now, if you click on one of those, it opens up what very much looks like
00:14:44
a TikTok or a Reels or Shorts feed.
00:14:47
And you can start scrolling vertically.
00:14:50
And for people that are having their content picked up in this, they are
00:14:54
generating hundreds of thousands of impressions, which is just crazy numbers.
00:15:00
This whole concept is something LinkedIn has been trying to work out for quite a while now.
00:15:04
I think they mentioned having a discovery page almost 12, 18 months ago.
00:15:09
I first reported on it.
00:15:10
And they've tried different things.
00:15:12
It was going to be much bigger than just video.
00:15:14
Then it became shorter.
00:15:16
It was a button down the bottom.
00:15:17
Then that disappeared for some people that have creator managers.
00:15:21
They were getting videos uploaded specifically by them.
00:15:24
Like they had to be nominated.
00:15:26
The rest of us mere mortals didn't have access, but now we're starting to see just general people
00:15:31
that upload a short form video are getting picked up into this feed and because it's brand new.
00:15:37
Think about it, the people at LinkedIn want this to be a success.
00:15:40
The product development team that developed this have obviously put a lot
00:15:43
of time, energy, and resources into it.
00:15:45
How do you generate a return?
00:15:47
You get people excited about it.
00:15:49
I know for a lot of people, they're questioning short form video feed on LinkedIn.
00:15:53
It's not really the platform that they go to consume that kind of content.
00:15:57
And I get it from that perspective, but at the same time, if you think about it, the
00:16:01
home feed is so full with over a billion people creating content all the time.
00:16:09
And from that perspective, it's so hard to stand out.
00:16:12
So having another opportunity to be discovered in a separate feed, I'm
00:16:16
definitely high fiving LinkedIn for this.
00:16:19
We need a different way to get discovered by new people so that we can grow our followers
00:16:24
so that we can share all of that effort that goes into creating posts and short form videos.
00:16:30
We don't see a lot of good quality content in short form videos on LinkedIn.
00:16:34
So I'm excited that it gives a place for those people who might be TikTokers, who might be
00:16:39
making reels or shorts to come across and participate on LinkedIn cause if you think
00:16:44
about it, LinkedIn is really skewed towards those that are good at writing and not so great
00:16:51
at the moment for those that create videos.
00:16:53
So this is really going to be another opportunity for people to showcase different talents.
00:16:58
And I don't think it needs to be a high end production.
00:17:00
Don't think that this is something that your business really has to go over the top
00:17:04
and hire a studio or do anything like that.
00:17:07
As long as you've got a mobile phone these days and tools like CapCut tools like Descript
00:17:13
is, these make life so much easier for you to create content and especially video content.
00:17:18
The thing that I haven't seen when I've tested this out myself is that when I go in, so if I
00:17:24
select one of the four videos that I can see in the videos for you, it opens up the new feed.
00:17:29
And if I start scrolling to try and find something.
00:17:31
I haven't seen any content in there that's from a company page.
00:17:35
And I really hope that changes.
00:17:37
I'll be very disappointed in the strongest terms that I can use on a podcast if they
00:17:43
don't include company page content in that feed as well, because yeah, I think that would
00:17:48
just be next level discrimination to pages.
00:17:57
So I want you to think about listeners.
00:17:59
What is a short form video that you could create to start having a go at this?
00:18:03
It doesn't have to be perfect.
00:18:04
If it is your first short form video, talk about that in the video.
00:18:08
You would be surprised at how many people will want to cheer you on, myself included.
00:18:13
Tag me in the post at Michelle J Raymond, I will come and celebrate and support you because
00:18:19
getting over that first one is the way that you can get further down the track to be an expert
00:18:25
at creating these short form style videos.
00:18:28
And if you don't get started and other people are getting all of these impressions,
00:18:33
then that is potentially opportunities that are going to them instead of you,
00:18:37
because they're willing to have a go.
00:18:39
And that's all that this comes down to.
00:18:41
So we're going to challenge myself on this one too, to have a go at more of
00:18:44
this short form, vertical format content and see what I can put out there.
00:18:48
Who knows?
00:18:49
Maybe my video will get picked up.
00:18:50
No different to these other people that are reporting, such amazing kind of numbers right now.
00:18:56
And this will probably change over time, but with anything, jump on the opportunity.
00:19:00
See what you can discover for yourself.
00:19:02
If you discover something that's pretty cool, please reach out.
00:19:06
Let me know over in the direct messages on LinkedIn.
00:19:09
You can drop a comment now, if you're listening on Spotify, hello to you.
00:19:13
Did you know that you can leave comments on Spotify podcast these days?
00:19:17
Wow.
00:19:17
So listeners, as we wrap up today, that is the LinkedIn updates that I think that you
00:19:21
need to be aware of to leverage LinkedIn to the max, to generate business opportunities.
00:19:27
Until next episode, I hope you all have an awesome week.
00:19:30
Cheers.
